Astrid Baumgardner
ASTRID BAUMGARDNER, JD, PCC, brings her experience as a lawyer,
nonprofit executive and consultant, orchestra board chair, and career and
executive coach to her work at the Yale School of Music, where she teaches
career entrepreneurship and heads the Office of Career Strategies.
A graduate of Mount Holyoke College and Rutgers Newark School of Law,
where she was a member of the Law Review, Ms. Baumgardner practiced law
in New York City for twenty-five years. She then combined her professional
experience with her love of the arts and served as the Deputy Executive
Director of the French Institute Alliance Française of New York. She
subsequently became an independent consultant to nonprofit arts boards
before starting her coaching business.
As president of Astrid Baumgardner Coaching + Training, Ms. Baumgardner
coaches musicians, arts leaders, lawyers, and creative professionals on
professional and career development. She also guest lectures at conservatories
and summer music festivals including the Juilliard School, the Norfolk
Chamber Music Festival and the So Percussion Summer Institute and
conducts leadership training workshops at Opera America and Ensemble
Connect, the teaching artist academy at Carnegie Hall.

A lifelong amateur pianist and champion of new music, she is Chair of the
Board of So Percussion and past Chair and Co-chair of the Board of the
